First Aid Training

Why should our company invest in first aid training for employees?

First aid training can save lives, reduce workplace injuries, reduce workdays lost and promote a safer working environment, which can lead to lower insurance costs and increased employee morale.

Is first aid training required by law for our company?

Thailand has a comprehensive legal framework in place to ensure workplace safety and employee well-being:

“The Safety, Health and Workplace Act (Act II 2011)” and the “The Labor Protection Act (B.E 2541, 1998)” outline the responsibilities of employers and employees in maintaining a safe working environment.

Employers are required to:

  1. Provide a safe and healthy workplace.
  2. Implement measures to prevent accidents and occupational illnesses.
  3. Provide information, training, and supervision to ensure employee safety.
  4. Establish and maintain first aid facilities and appoint qualified personnel to administer first aid.

What are the benefits of having employees trained in first aid?

Trained employees can respond to workplace injuries or medical emergencies promptly, potentially minimising the severity of injuries, reducing the financial and emotional costs associated with accidents, and improving overall safety.

A well-prepared workforce can enhance workplace morale, fostering a sense of security among employees, and contribute to a safer and more productive work environment.

How often should employees undergo first aid training and certification renewal?

It is recommended that employees undergo first aid training and certification renewal every two years, while CPR and AED training should be renewed annually due to the critical nature of these lifesaving skills.

Regular training ensures that employees maintain their proficiency in responding to medical and injury emergencies, promoting a safer workplace.

Furthermore, periodic renewal aligns employees with evolving best practices and guidelines, keeping them informed about the latest advancements in first aid techniques. At Bangkok First Aid, we deliver national and international certifications that are valid for 2 years.

Can we have in-house first aid trainers, or should we hire an external provider?

Some companies opt for in-house trainers, while others choose to work with external providers. The decision may depend on factors like the size of your organisation and expertise available. We can help you to determine the best option for your company. Besides, we offer first aid instructor courses and training as well.

What should be included in a workplace first aid kit, and how often should it be checked?

The decision on what to put in your first aid kit or first aid station will be determined by results of your threat and risk assessment. Routine assessments of your first-aid kits and equipment are required, typically performed on a monthly basis, with replenishment or replacement following utilisation.

This practice is essential to maintain the preparedness and efficiency of your first aid resources in managing work-related injuries or emergencies. Tailored provisions, including specialised items or medications, may be necessary based on your first aid needs and requirements.

What topics are typically covered in a workplace first aid training course?

  • In a basic CPR AED training course, the curriculum includes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for adults and children, guidance on using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and instruction on managing choking incidents. For organisations that interact with infants under 1 year old, the course typically extends to encompass infant CPR and choking management.
  • Advanced CPR AED training goes beyond the basics, focusing on team dynamics and the utilisation of more advanced equipment such as a pocket mask or bag valve mask (BVM). This training is particularly important in workplaces where the risk of severe medical emergencies is elevated.
  • First aid skills integrated into the training program are customised based on the risk level within the organisation. In a low-risk environment, like an office building, a comprehensive course would encompass CPR AED along with basic first aid skills such as managing asthma attacks, heart attacks, strokes, allergic reactions, diabetes-related incidents, seizures, external bleeding, shock, head, neck, and spinal injuries, burns, and treatment for broken bones and sprains.
  • Conversely, in high-risk environments like factories, more extensive and detailed first aid training is recommended. This advanced training includes specific medical protocols, techniques, and skills that align with the elevated risks of injuries and illnesses.

How do we select a reputable first aid training provider for our company?

  • ‌Selecting a reputable first aid training provider for your company involves careful consideration of various factors. Look for training centers with international accreditation, such as the American Heart Association, St John's Ambulance, or the Red Cross, as they are known for their rigorous standards and comprehensive training programs as well as the recognition of the certifications that they deliver. It's essential to choose a provider with experience in workplace first aid training, as they can tailor the course to meet your specific industry and workplace needs. Additionally, seek out a training provider with a proven track record of positive reviews from other businesses they have served.
  • As an accredited American Heart Association (AHA) training provider, Bangkok First Aid stands as a reliable choice. We have provided training and equipped companies for almost a decade in Thailand. All our instructors are certified by the AHA and trained according to the international standards. Our extensive experience and commitment to delivering high-quality training make us a reputable option for your company's first aid training needs. With a history of serving hundreds companies and training thousands of individuals, we offer the expertise and training resources necessary to enhance the safety and well-being of your workforce.

Is it cost-effective to invest in first aid training for all employees?

Investing in first aid training for all employees can be highly cost-effective, and the actual cost will depend on the level of training required. While there may be expenses associated with training, these costs are often outweighed by the potential savings resulting from reduced workplace injuries and an improved safety culture.

Equipping your workforce with essential first aid skills not only enhances their ability to respond to medical emergencies but can also lead to quicker, more effective interventions that reduce the severity of injuries.

In the long run, these benefits can lead to lower insurance costs, decreased medical expenses, and improved employee morale, making it a wise investment for the overall safety and well-being of your organisation.

Can we tailor first aid training to the specific needs and risks of our industry?

  • Certainly, we understand the importance of tailoring first aid training to the specific needs and risks of your industry. Our expertise allows us to advise you on the most suitable course based on your level of risk and specific first aid requirements.
  • Additionally, we offer customisation options to address industry-specific risks by incorporating relevant and advanced medical techniques and protocols into our courses. Whether your industry involves low or high-risk environments, we can provide training that aligns with your needs, ensuring your employees are well-prepared to respond to the medical emergencies they may encounter in the workplace.

What is the ideal employee-to-first-aider ratio for workplace safety?

  • The ideal employee-to-first-aider ratio for workplace safety is influenced by the size and nature of your workplace. A risk assessment in the context of the Safety Statement should consider the numbers employed, the nature of the work, the degree of hazard, the level of accidents arising, the size and location of the workplace, the distribution of the employees, shift working, availability of an occupational health service with the workplace and the distance and duration from external medical services etc...
  • While there are no exact rules dictating the precise number of first aiders, there is a legal requirement in Thailand to provide adequate first aid equipment, facilities, and personnel to ensure immediate assistance in the event of an accident or medical situation. Ideally, every employee should be trained in first aid to enhance workplace safety. To decide on the number of first aiders required, you can consider an average of 1 emergency responder (with advanced first aid CPR AED training) for 20 employees in low-risk environments and 1 emergency responder (with advanced first aid CPR AED training) for every 10 employees in high-risk environments. This approach ensures effective coverage and swift response to any medical emergency.

How can we maintain a culture of safety and ensure employees are confident in their first aid skills after training?

  • Maintaining a culture of safety and fostering employee confidence in their first aid skills involves several key elements. Firstly, establishing a comprehensive Health & Safety policy within the company, where both employers and employees are aware of their responsibilities, is essential. This policy sets the foundation for safety awareness. Additionally, providing the necessary equipment in line with your first aid requirements ensures that employees have the tools to act promptly in emergencies.
  • Equally vital is offering proper safety and first aid training for your employees, ensuring they are well-prepared to respond to medical incidents. However, to maintain this competence and instill confidence, regular drills, refreshers, and consistent communication regarding safety procedures are essential. These activities serve to reinforce the knowledge and skills acquired during training, creating a workplace culture where safety is paramount and employees feel confident in their ability to manage first aid situations effectively.
